Opening of African Research Initiative for Scientific excellence
The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, had the honour and privilege of delivering His Excellency President William Ruto’s keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE) Conference. The conference brings together key stakeholders and players in science, research and innovation, including Heads of State and Government, ministers, policy makers, the private sector and regional actors, to chart the path forward for African science and innovation. The Cabinet Secretary conveyed His Excellency President Ruto’s call for the strengthening of continental cooperation for our collective progress, noting that we must now reignite the continental ambition and treat research funding as a Pan-African priority and not as a luxury. The opening ceremony was also addressed by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Mahama, and the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo. The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Science, Research and Innovation.
